Gino Badagliacca impressed Dieter Bohlen and millions of fans in “Das Supertalent” in 2007. Now the native Sicilian has died.

He became known beyond the city limits of his adopted home as “the singing pizza baker from Gütersloh” thanks to the RTL casting show “Das Supertalent”. Now the Sicilian-born Gino Badagliacca has died at the age of 84. , Badagliacca died last Tuesday. Nothing is yet known about the exact cause of death.

In addition to his singing career, the Italian ran a popular pizzeria in downtown Gütersloh and was also famous there because of his passion for singing. A few years ago he handed over his restaurant to his successor and then enjoyed his retirement.

Badagliacca came to Germany in 1961 and, with his incomparable tenor voice, took part in the very first season of the RTL program “Das Supertalent” in 2007. He thrilled the audience and jury with, among other things, a performance of the popular opera aria “Nessun Dorma” and ultimately made it to the final. However, he had to settle for fourth place there. Jury boss Dieter Bohlen (70) raved about Badagliacca’s voice at the time and said that he had “endless goosebumps”.

Bad luck for the then 68-year-old Badagliacca: Another German-Italian opera singer took part in the first “Supertalent” season, who also performed his songs in the tenor range. Ricardo Marinello (35) was ultimately able to assert himself as an 18-year-old young artist. After “Das Supertalent” Marinello established himself as a sought-after singer and is still active today. In the past few months, Marinello has received tens of millions of clicks on TikTok, in which he unexpectedly presents his extraordinary voice to guests in restaurants and secretly films their reactions.
