Film stars: Sacha Baron Cohen rejects Rebel Wilson’s allegations

In the course of the MeToo debate, Rebel Wilson made allegations against an actor in 2017 without naming names – she is now making up for it. The accused defends himself.

British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen has denied allegations of sexual harassment by Hollywood actress Rebel Wilson (“Pitch Perfect”). The 44-year-old Australian’s allegations were “demonstrably false,” said a representative of Baron Cohen (52, “Borat”) to the British news agency PA.

Wilson wrote in her recently published memoir about making the film “The Spy and His Brother” (2016, Original: The Brothers Grimsby), “it felt like Sacha Baron Cohen was sexually harassing me.” There had been several incidents of inappropriate behavior in which she felt disrespected.

Wilson refused to promote the film

She also described a situation in which he allegedly asked her to touch him intimately. In the film, Wilson played the girlfriend of the main character played by Baron Cohen. Because of the ongoing harassment, she refused to promote the film, which also starred Baron Cohen’s wife Isla Fisher as well as Mark Strong and Penélope Cruz, Wilson wrote. She mentioned the incident during the MeToo debate on Twitter in November 2017, but did not name any names at the time.

Baron Cohen’s representative emphasized that the actor believes it is important for those affected to speak out publicly. However, “these demonstrably false claims are directly refuted by extensive detailed evidence, including period documents, film footage and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby.”
