Warner Bros. Discovery announced that they will continue the Lana and Lily Wachowski franchise with a new writer and director at the helm.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced this Wednesday that they are producing a fifth film in the Matrix franchise. This will be the first film in the saga that will not feature Lana or Lily Wachowski as project directors.
Lana Wachowskiwhich directed Matrix Resurrections In 2021, it will continue to be present as executive producer. At the moment it is not known if any of the actors from previous entries in the franchise will return, such as Keanu Reeves either Carrie-Anne Moss.
Although no details of the story were revealed, the president of production at Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, Jesse Ehrman announced that the story of Matrix 5 will delve into the world of fantasywithout straying too far from what made this franchise a success.

The Matrix began in 1999 and its first installment is considered one of the films of Science fiction most influential in history. It had three sequels, matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions from 2003, and Matrix Resurrections from 2021.
Who will direct Matrix 5
The script and direction of Matrix 5 are in the hands of Drew Goddard. He is known for having written The Martian, Cloverfield and World War 7as well as having written and directed The Cabin In The Woods.
“Drew came to Warners with a new idea that we all thought would be an amazing way to continue the world of The Matrix.honoring what Lana and Lily started 25 years ago but also offering a unique perspective based on their love for the series and its characters,” Ehrman said in a statement. To this, Goddard added: “It’s not hyperbole to say that the films The Matrix changed both cinema and my life. Lana and Lily’s exquisite artistic vision inspires me every day and I am very grateful for the opportunity to tell stories in their world.”
