A scene in “Game of Thrones” was a terrible experience for Hannah Waddingham – she still suffers from the consequences today.
The British actress Hannah Waddingham (49) is still suffering from filming the hit series “Game of Thrones”. A ten-hour torture scene made her claustrophobic and in need of therapy.
“I was strapped down for ten hours”
The “Game of Thrones” actress answered questions from presenter Perri Nemiroff (37) on the US television show “Collider Ladies Night”. She asked the actress about the cruel scene in which her character Septa Unella is tortured while co-star Lena Headey (50, Queen Cersei) pours wine on her face. Waddingham then revealed that the scene involved waterboarding as a means of torture, in which water is repeatedly thrown in the face. “I was strapped to a wooden table with really thick straps for ten hours,” she said. This circumstance made her claustrophobic and required therapy. It was “definitely the worst day of my life.”
Waddingham decided to play through the scene anyway. Originally, she was supposed to be raped by Gregor Clegane, a notorious warrior. However, the scene was changed at the last minute because Waddingham previously expressed concerns.
Hannah Waddingham: She can still laugh
However, it wasn’t until much later that she realized that she was also suffering from psychological problems. “I only noticed it when I saw a program where the camera was focused on a diver’s face and then he was submerged in the water – you saw him face up [eintauchen]. “I panicked terribly,” said the actress. Only then did she talk to someone about it and seek help.
Despite these experiences, the Brit is still in the mood for jokes: when she admitted that she had “bruises” at the end, as if she had been “attacked,” Waddingham told Nemiroff: “You didn’t do ‘Game of Thrones.’ “If you haven’t really been beaten up”. She also joked about losing her voice, which was a crazy experience for her as a professional singer.
She most recently demonstrated humor in her leading role in the comedy series “Ted Lasso”. She stars as Rebecca Welton in the Apple TV+ series. As Septa Unella, Waddingham appeared in a supporting role in the fifth and sixth seasons of “Game of Thrones”.
