Alexander Hold: Politician suffering from cancer urges precaution

Alexander Hold, ex-TV judge and member of the Bavarian state parliament, has been diagnosed with cancer. Now he calls for precaution.

Alexander Hold (62) is suffering from cancer. This was announced by his Free Voters party. During a routine preventive examination, “suspicious values and unclear findings” were found in the former Kempten judge and Allgäu state parliament member. After further investigations, it is now clear that it is cancer. “The prostate, which is affected by a malignant tumor, will be surgically removed in April,” it continues.

Urgent appeal for precaution

Alexander Hold consciously decided to make his illness public, the announcement explains. “If you, as an elected representative, cannot show your usual presence over a longer period of time, it rightly raises questions for people,” explains the politician in a statement. Only by being open can he ask for understanding from the people “who represent me in the state parliament presidium and in the parliamentary group.” In addition, Hold wants to use the announcement to call for preventative care: “Whether it’s breast, urological, colon or skin cancer – please go for preventative care, early and regularly! For all types of cancer, the earlier something is detected, the better it is Chances of recovery!”

He also gave far too little thought to “the fact that health cannot be taken for granted. This makes the shock that such a diagnosis triggers all the greater.” In his case, the carcinoma had already grown so close to the neighboring nerves that the operation would be challenging. “Which further therapies will be necessary afterwards will become apparent after the operation.” But he is very confident about the future and generally has a positive attitude. “And as with every situation in life: you grow through challenges!”

After studying law in Munich, Alexander Hold was a judge in his hometown of Kempten. From 2001 onwards, he made fictitious judgments for more than ten years on the daily television show “Richter Alexander Hold” on Sat.1. Over 2,000 episodes of the show were broadcast on screens. There were also shows like “Guilty? – Fates in Court” or “In the Name of Justice”. Hold is also active as an author and presenter. For the Free Voters, he has been, among other things, a member of the Bavarian State Parliament and Vice President of the State Parliament since 2018. In 2017 he ran in the election for Federal President. He received two percent of the vote.
