Modern Santa and neighborhood hero: Kanye West celebrates his hometown Chicago after a generous donation for children.
Kanye West (44) tends not only to be excessive when it comes to his music and his self-expression in public – but also when it comes to charity. In his hometown of Chicago, the rapper donated almost 4,000 toys for a pre-Christmas campaign for disadvantaged children.
For the “Toys for Englewood” campaign, 4,000 toys were brought together on Sunday for needy children in the socially disadvantaged district of Chicago. Kanye West donated most of the gifts, according to councilor Stephanie Coleman, 33.
Kanye West has been involved in Chicago for a long time
Kanye West, who currently only calls himself Ye, was born on June 8, 1977 in Atlanta, but grew up in Chicago. The artist, now worth billions, has been involved there for a long time. As early as 2003, shortly before starting his career as a solo artist, he founded a foundation for the musical promotion of underprivileged young people.
“I’m so proud that Kanye is once again honoring our request to help the children of Englewood and beyond,” said Councilor Coleman. “He’s no stranger to our church. His presence has always been felt in our neighborhoods and he loves to visit us, but this Christmas he really was our modern Santa Claus.”
She thanks the committed citizen, whom she described as the “hero of the neighboring city”: “We want to thank him for understanding that children in Englewood, on the South Side and in Chicago in general are without their fathers on this holiday Coleman told the broadcaster.
