Hollywood star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has competed in his first wrestling match in years. The 51-year-old won.
Former professional wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (51) has not been in the ring for several years. Instead, as is well known, the giant made a career in Hollywood and was seen in blockbusters such as “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and the “Fast & Furious” series. But on Saturday evening (April 6th) it was that time again in the US metropolis of Philadelphia: For the major event WrestleMania XL, Johnson got into the ring alongside wrestling professional Roman Reigns (38). Together with the reigning WWE champion, he fought against Cody Rhodes (38) and Seth Rollins (37) – and won.
“The Rock”: More wrestling matches in the future?
Well over 70,000 spectators attended the star-studded tag team match at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles. The spectacular main event of the first WrestleMania evening lasted almost 50 minutes, with the turbulent fight taking numerous twists and turns. For example, “The Rock” threatened the referee that he could have him fired if he decided to enforce the rules against his team – not an empty threat from the Hollywood star, since “The Rock” has also been a member of the supervisory board of TKO since the beginning of the year Parent company of WrestleMania host WWE.
Ultimately, “The Rock” triumphed with his partner Roman Reigns, who will now have his title match against Cody Rhodes on Sunday evening under the special, so-called “Bloodline” rules. Everything is possible and permitted here – and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is also likely to intervene in the fight again. Further wrestling appearances by the now over 50-year-old actor are not ruled out in the future.
Travis Kelce’s brother is also getting into the ring at WrestleMania XL
Also at the big WrestleMania event was ex-NFL professional Jason Kelce (36), the brother of Taylor Swift’s (34) partner Travis Kelce (34). Jason Kelce and Philadelphia Eagles professional Lane Johnson (33) came to the aid of wrestlers Rey Mysterio (49) and Andrade (34), with the two giants entering the fight wearing masks. When Jason Kelce pulled his mask off his face, there was huge cheering in the wrestling arena in Philadelphia, as the former NFL center played his entire professional football career for the local team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
