Didn’t Alec Baldwin have his emotions under control on the set of Rust? At least that’s what the public prosecutor’s office claims.
The trial against Alec Baldwin (65) for the manslaughter of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021) is scheduled to begin in New Mexico in July of this year. In files that have now been published, among other things, the public prosecutor accuses him of not having his emotions under control during the filming. He is said to have been “inattentive” during shooting training, and in general he is said to have often “yelled and cursed” on the set of the western.
The prosecutor’s letter paints a picture of a man who “has absolutely no control over his own emotions and is completely indifferent to how his behavior affects those around him.” Witnesses testified that “this very behavior contributed to the safety risks on the set.” In October 2021, a shot was fired from a gun that Alec Baldwin was holding during the filming of “Rust”. Camerawoman Halyna Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza (50) was injured by the same bullet.
Reaction to Baldwin’s attempt to avert trial
The prosecutor’s office released the document in response to an attempt by Alec Baldwin’s lawyers to avert the trial. Among other things, they accuse the prosecution of leaking information to the press. In addition, some witnesses are biased.
The actor pleaded not guilty. He claims that he did not pull the trigger and that the shot went off on its own. In April 2022, an initial charge against the star was initially dropped. According to prosecutors, later statements contradicted Baldwin’s version of events.
In a separate trial in March 2023, master at arms Hannah Gutierrez-Reed (27) was found guilty. She could be jailed for 18 months. Alec Baldwin also faces a prison sentence of this amount if he is convicted.
