From imposing mountain formations to beautiful valleys and crystal clear rivers, The Rioja It is positioned as one of the most beautiful provinces in the Argentina. Known mostly for some of its most famous destinations such as Talampaya National Park and Los Cardones National Park, the province also keeps secret places to visit.
One of them is Samay Huasia beautiful farm two kilometers from the city center of Chilecito, which became an ideal historical and natural corner for rest. It is defined as “a true oasis in the middle of the mountains.”
The place belonged to Dr. Joaquín V. González, a well-known writer, educator and politician, who in addition to being the first owner, was the one who decided to call it “Samay Huasi”, which in the Quechua language means “place of rest”.

What to do in Samay Huasi, the farm near Chilecito
After González’s death, the farm was incorporated into the National University of La Plata. Today, the property functions as a museum and hotel and you can do a wide variety of activities.
- Visit the Mis Montañas Regional Museum: Inside is the Antonio Alice art gallery, which contains important works by nationally renowned painters, and the Natural Sciences, Mineralogy and Archeology Room, which preserves mineral records, animals, plants, and aboriginal pieces of great value.
- Visit where Dr. González lived: You can go to two rooms that were part of the residence of a man known for having created the Labor and Mining Code. In the place there are personal belongings of González and his writings.

Visit the statue of Dr. González: Inside the property, there is an imposing statue of the man in a pensive pose. Behind it you can go to a viewpoint through a stone walkway carved by the writer himself.

How to get to Samay Huasi
Samay Huasi is located two kilometers east of the tourist city of Chilecito. To access the place you have to take the Provincial Route 12. It takes between 5 and 10 minutes.
