Peter Urban has been part of the Eurovision Song Contest since 1997. But he wants to hold back on giving tips to his successor.
Peter Urban (75) commented on the Eurovision Song Contest on German television for more than two decades. He explains to the news agency spot on news why he prefers not to give his successor Thorsten Schorn (48) any advice.
“Every person has to find their own way to comment on the ESC – so I hold back on giving tips,” emphasizes the ESC legend, who announced his retirement last year. Instead, he sends emotional support: “I’ll definitely give Thorsten Schorn my best wishes!” When he comments on the semi-finals and finals of the European music competition for the first time in May, NDR star Peter Urban will definitely be watching: “And of course I will follow the ESC.”
Congratulations for the ESC newcomer
On April 9th, the NDR officially announced the personnel. Moderator Schorn is known from radio and television, including as the director of the RTL show “Because they don’t know what’s happening” with Thomas Gottschalk (73), Günther Jauch (67) and Barbara Schöneberger (50) and as the voiceover of the VOX program “Shopping Queen”.
After the announcement, some RTL colleagues expressed their congratulations on social networks. Meteorologist Paul Heger, for example, congratulated: “Woooow! Congratulations! Good luck, fun and toi toi toi.” Moderator Jan Malte Andresen (51) said: “Oh, how nice! Douze Points.” And stylist Krissi van der Viven, who is responsible for the looks on “Let’s Dance”, among other things, wrote in her Instagram story “I’m so happy for you” and sent four red hearts. The ARD also gave the best rating: “12 points from us.”
Isaac represents Germany
The ESC 2024 will take place in Malmö, Sweden. Singer Isaak (29) competes for Germany with his song “Always On The Run”. The semi-finals can be seen live on ONE, “eurovision.de” and in the ARD media library on May 7th and 9th from 9:00 p.m. The final begins on May 11th at 9:00 p.m. also on Das Erste, in the media library or on the website.
