Biyon Kattilathu: How the birth of his son strengthened him

Hate comments online and malice from Oliver Pocher cannot harm Biyon Kattilathu. One experience in particular made him resilient.

What for other people is the most beautiful moment in life was for Biyon Kattilathu (39) “the worst thing that has ever happened to me”: the day on which his son saw the light of day with his wife Sheila Singh. In an interview with the magazine “Bunte”, the “Let’s Dance” participant reports about the dramatic time. “I went through hell two years ago,” said Kattilathu. “My wife had a very complicated pregnancy. Our son was in intensive care for four weeks and we were with him day and night.”

The child lay “virtually dead in my arms twice” and was only saved by the incredible competence of the doctors. “That point in time was the lowest point in my life. I wouldn’t wish such an experience on my worst enemy,” sums up the entertainer.

To this day, it is not entirely clear what exactly happened when his son was born. “In the end, they probably waited too long and tried to have the child come into the world naturally,” explains Kattilathu. When he was born, the boy was “completely blue”. He could only be resuscitated after 15 minutes and had no brain function for a day. “It was a nightmare. It’s an absolute medical miracle that my son is healthy today.”

The good news: Little son Kian apparently suffered no damage to his health. “He is totally fit and vital, speaks, runs and all of that without any restrictions. It’s really a miracle,” continued Kattilathu. This experience is also why he can now deal with negative comments or public shitstorms so calmly.

“Since this existential experience, everything else has been irrelevant to me,” explains the 39-year-old. “So I can easily ignore headlines and comments. It doesn’t affect me. If someone attacks me, I develop compassion for that person rather than hatred.”

With this, Biyon Kattilathu is also alluding to the public shitstorm and malice from comedian Oliver Pocher (46), which he has received in recent months after he was spotted alongside Pocher’s ex-wife Amira (31).

The decision to take part in “Let’s Dance” at that moment and to stand live on the dance floor in front of an audience of millions every week was, so to speak, a flight forward. “I said to myself: especially now,” says Kattilathu.
