With delay, the Cultural San Martín launched its year’s programming

Under the new orbit of Mariana Ron as general director (comes from CCRojas), appointed by the Buenos Aires secretary of culture Gabriela Ricardes, The programming will have theater, cinema, dance, literature, music and visual arts with proposals related to new technologies and creative economies as the main focus. It is worth asking if in times of “no money” the creative economy responds to the challenge of doing a lot with little. The thing is that although there will be many proposals in all disciplines, several were canceled as happened in all public institutions.

In stage performances the cycle stands out Americana Icurated by Maruja Bustamante, where contemporary directors are inspired by stories and novels by American authors. It will arrive in May Remisería Las Mellia play written and directed by Ana Kowalczuk and Camilo Polotto Plovkin.

In August, it will be released Perplexed by the German playwright Marius von Mayenburg under the direction of Guillermo Mariscal. In September the new debut of Dennis Smith with My previous life, where he will not only be its director but also its protagonist. Finally, for October and November it will be re-released Hermaphroditethe piece of Alfredo Arias, Mayra Bonard and Carlos Casella. As you can see, less theatrical production than usual, where at least 3 premieres were offered per month, which resulted in prolific work for the cultural San Martín’s performance staff.

The Cultural San Martín proposes this year a look to position itself as a portal between the past and the future, reaffirming its historical identity based on its modern architectural heritage, built in two historical moments by the architect Mario Roberto Álvarez: the decade of the ‘ 60s and in the 2000s. In this sense, projects will be carried out that will address the enhancement of the building, as well as guided tours of the space and free cultural tours from the cultural center to other points.

As you can see, these are projects to address an enhancement and not concrete works, which in this context of little money available, especially for the area of culture, would be unviable.

The link between the Human Scale/Digital Scale will be investigated, combining arts, science, architecture and design in a transversal way. In this way, artistic installations, interactive proposals, sound installations, visual arts samples, theoretical meetings, debates, concerts, performative actions and educational programs will take place. Artists and researchers such as Pablo Siquier, Esteban Pastorino, Delfina Bourse, Ana Rascovsky, Valeria Castelló-Joubert and Lula Mari; and renowned institutions, among which the IDA Foundation, Research in Argentine Design, stand out; Moderna Buenos Aires and Bunge y Born Foundation.

Among the invited artists will be Mene Savasta, Oliverio Duhalde, Mecha Mío, Ren Bot, Pablo Reche, Milo Schnitman, Lux Valladolid and Magdalena Molinari.

Cinema will have a central place in the activities agenda. In April the San Martín Cultural Center will host the 25th Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (Bafici) and the year’s programming will emphasize retrospectives of contemporary Argentine directors: the first, during June, will be dedicated to the work of Nestor Frenkel.
