TV show: Matthias Opdenhövel takes over “Schlag den Star”

TV show: Matthias Opdenhövel takes over “Schlag den Star”

He was away for a long time, but now Matthias Opdenhövel is returning to “Schlag den Star” as presenter: “I can hardly wait to be back in my old living room after 13 years.”

Change at the ProSieben competition show “Schlag den Star”: Matthias Opdenhövel returns after 13 years and becomes presenter again. He will replace his colleague Elton on June 1st. Opdenhövel from Cologne hosted “Schlag den Raab” from 2006 to 2011 and “Schlag den Star” in 2010.

ProSieben quoted the 53-year-old in a statement: “It’s an honor and a homecoming at the same time. I can’t wait to be back in my old living room after 13 years and I’m looking forward to all the prominent pairings and crazy games.” Most recently, Elton (also 53) hosted “Schlag den Star” for eight years.

ProSieben station boss Hannes Hiller commented: “You couldn’t wish for a better handover of the baton. Matthias Opdenhövel is returning to his ProSieben beginnings. He once made “Schlag den Raab” the mother of all competition shows as a congenial presenter in alternation with Stefan Raab Saturday night.”

Elton: I didn’t hand in “Beat the Star” voluntarily

Elton reacted to ProSieben’s decision with great disappointment. “To make one thing clear: I am not giving up this wonderful show voluntarily,” the moderator wrote on Instagram.

Elton recently launched several shows on the ProSieben competition RTL. This end of the commitment is obviously related to this. An industry insider told dpa that Elton’s management had been informed for some time. The moderator himself, however, wrote about a surprising decision in the post.

Elton criticized his previous client: “It seems like it’s too much for ProSieben that I’m working at RTL. All of a sudden!!!! “Beat the best” and also “Disgrace or collect” were only offered to ProSieben.” He is “really speechless, angry but above all extremely sad. I’m not even granted a farewell show after 23 years at ProSieben. Without words!!!”

Around three weeks ago it was announced that Elton would moderate the format “The RTL EM Studio – All Games, Goals, Emotions” for RTL during this year’s European Football Championship. The show comes from Stefan Raab’s new production company.

In up to 15 rounds, the two opponents compete against each other in a direct duel in “Schlag den Star”. The winner receives 100,000 euros.
