Award: Hollywood star for star pianist Lang Lang

Chinese pianist Lang Lang is considered classical music’s greatest living star. Now he has a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, celebrated as the “Leonardo Da Vinci of the piano.”

The world-famous pianist Lang Lang has been honored with a star plaque in Hollywood. The 41-year-old Chinese native unveiled the 2,778th star on the “Walk of Fame”.

A dream has come true, said Lang Lang in his acceptance speech. Now he is immortalized alongside classical music stars such as Vladimir Horowitz and Arthur Rubinstein. He recalled his beginnings at the piano in China at the age of two and his move to the USA as a 14-year-old student.

Music would make the world a better place, said Lang Lang. He wants to share this gift with everyone and, above all, inspire young people to play an instrument. Lang Lang is unconventional, takes risks and is simply a phenomenon, said Dickon Stainer from the music company Universal Music Group. The “Leonardo Da Vinci of the piano” conquered the world as a pianist.

The musician brought his parents and his wife, the German-Korean pianist Gina Alice Redlinger (29), to the ceremony. The couple has a three-year-old son. Lang Lang posed beaming on the star plaque, moving his fingers as if he were playing the piano on it. In fact, he sat down at a piano in front of photographers and onlookers on Hollywood Boulevard and showed off his skills.

Lang Lang became known worldwide after his performance at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. In the following years he played, among other things, at the awarding of the Nobel Prize to former American President Barack Obama, at the 60th anniversary of the throne of Queen Elizabeth II and in front of Pope Francis in the Vatican.

Last year he stepped down the day after the coronation of King Charles III. and Queen Camilla at the coronation concert at Windsor Castle. He has played with many renowned orchestras and conductors, but also with the metal band Metallica, the R&B singer Alicia Keys and singer Pharrell Williams.
