OJ Simpson died of cancer on Wednesday at the age of 76. In his last message to his fans, he was confident – but he was also wrong with another prediction.
He received many messages from fans about his health, reports OJ Simpson in the clip posted on the short message service X for the Super Bowl on February 11th. He wanted to reassure everyone: “Thank you to everyone who contacted me. I’m doing well in terms of health.”
Of course, he didn’t claim at the time that he was completely healthy. “I’m struggling with some problems,” he admits, referring to the illness, which was already known at the time. “But I think I’ve almost overcome it and will hopefully be back on the golf course in a few weeks,” he said optimistically.
OJ Simpson defended himself against hospice rumors
The video can certainly also be understood as a demarcation. Just a few days earlier there had been rumors that the former football star was in hospice. He also posted a clip about it. “Hospice, I mean Hos-Piz – seriously?” he said, irritated. “I’m not in a hospice. I don’t know who spreads this.”
The controversial star made his cancer public last year. In May he announced that he was suffering from unspecified cancer. Rumors said it was prostate cancer, but they cited the same source as the claim that he was in hospice.
By the way, OJ was wrong with his Super Bowl prediction announced in the last clip. He said he was convinced that his home team, the San Francisco 49ers, would win the finale of the football season. “And I don’t say that as a fan, but based on the qualities of the players on the pitch.” In the end, things turned out differently: the 49ers had to admit defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs. And OJ couldn’t go to the golf course anymore either.

Football star, movie star and the deep fall – the life of OJ Simpson
Controversial star
Although Simpson has had a distinguished career as a football player and actor (including in the “The Naked Gun” series), most people will remember him as a possible murderer. In 1992, his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her lover were murdered. OJ was charged as the main suspect but was ultimately acquitted in a controversial decision. In a civil case, he was still considered the guilty party and had to pay out millions in damages to those who remained.
His children with Brown Simpson never publicly commented on their attitude towards their father and their mother’s murder. When their father was on his deathbed, Sidney Simpson (38) and Justin Simpson (35) are said to have stood by him.
