Roberto Cavalli: fashion designer buried in Florence

The late fashion designer Roberto Cavalli was buried on Monday. Family, friends and celebrities said goodbye in Florence.

The Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli (1940-2024) died on April 12th in his homeland of Florence. Now the designer, who was particularly known for his animal fur creations, was buried there on April 15th.

The funeral service took place from 11:00 a.m. in the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte, as reported by, among others. The ceremony was led by Father Bernardo Gianni, who knew Cavalli personally and also led the wedding of one of the designer’s daughters. The fashion designer was married several times and had six children. Most recently he was with the Swedish model Sandra Nilsson (38), who gave him a son in 2023.

Many people say goodbye to Cavalli

In pictures taken as part of the funeral service, family members – including his children and partner Nilsson – and numerous other guests can also be seen as well as some Italian celebrities. Among those present were the presenter Carlo Conti (63) and his wife Francesca, actor Leonardo Pieraccioni (59) and the former soccer player Giancarlo Antognoni (70). From the world of fashion, the model Afef Jnifen (60), Toni Scervino (Ermanno Scervino) and Leonardo Ferragamo (Salvatore Ferragamo) were among those present.

Italian media reported last Friday that the Florence-born fashion star had died after a long illness. The fashion house named after him had the news. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to company founder Cavalli, who came from a humble background to become an internationally recognized name.
