In 2003, Matthew McConaughey starred with Kate Hudson in “How to Get Rid of Him in 10 Days?”. Now he explains why the film was so well received.
With the film “How do I get rid of him – in 10 days?” Matthew McConaughey (54) and Kate Hudson (44) played their way into the hearts of numerous romcom fans in 2003. More than 20 years later, McConaughey looks back on the romantic comedy and the special chemistry with his co-star.
“I remember we met at one of those casting meetings on the Paramount lot,” said the Hollywood star about the first meeting with his future film partner. At these dates, those in charge always wanted to “see the chemistry between the two main actors,” especially in romantic comedies. “You want to see how things go between them. You don’t read the script. You don’t read lines.”
The chemistry with Kate Hudson was just right
He immediately felt comfortable with Hudson. “We poked fun at each other and laughed a lot,” said McConaughey. He already thought that the shoot could be a lot of fun. “And I think that’s why I was cast and that’s why it worked.”
In “How do I get rid of him – in 10 days?” is about journalist Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson), who is supposed to write an article for a women’s magazine about how she can get rid of a man within ten days using anti-relationship tips. Ben Barry (Matthew McConaughey), on the other hand, bets with colleagues that he can make every woman fall in love with him within ten days. When the two meet, both plans backfire.
In 2008, Hudson and McConaughey appeared together again in front of the camera for a romantic comedy called “A Treasure to Fall in Love with.”
