Special tribute: A new tattoo by Metallica frontman James Hetfield contains the ashes of metal legend Lemmy Kilmister.
Metallica frontman James Hetfield (60) delights his numerous fans with a new tattoo. The legendary musician had an ace of spades engraved on his middle finger in honor of the late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister (1945-2015). What’s special about the body jewelry: The ink used for the tattoo contains a little ashes of the rock legend, who died in 2015.

Hetfield shared on Metallica’s official Instagram account on March 17 with the American metal band’s over eleven million followers. “A shout out to my friend and inspiration, Mr. Lemmy Kilmister. Without him there would be no Metallica,” Hetfield captioned the photo, adding, “Black ink mixed with a pinch of his cremation ashes so graciously given to me. “
This means that the deceased is still able to give the world the finger even after his death, as Hetfield explains. Singer Hetfield said in 2016 about Motörhead frontman Lemmy, who died in December 2015: “There is no doubt that without him Metallica would not exist.”
Hetfield didn’t choose his new tattoo by chance. “Ace of Spades” means “Ace of Spades” in German and is the title of the most famous song by Kilmister and Motörhead.
