It is well known that Til Schweiger wears his heart on his sleeve. Now he fought particularly hard against two German celebrities.
Actor and director Til Schweiger (60) has often made the headlines in recent weeks and months, but rarely because of his work. After a “Spiegel” report about problematic filming conditions and abuse of power on the set of his film “Manta Manta: Second Part”, his hospital stay in Mallorca recently caused a bubbling rumor mill. In an interview with the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”, Schweiger took a stand on both issues and also revealed that he really disliked two German celebrities – ZDF presenter Jan Böhmermann (43) and comedian Oliver Pocher (46).
“I despise them because they always laugh at other people’s expense,” says Schweiger, explaining his dislike. In addition, both would love to dish it out, but couldn’t take it at all: “If a joke happens to be at their expense, they make a lie and immediately come around the corner with a lawyer.” For him, Böhmermann is “the greatest emetic in the German media landscape” and Schweiger has even harbored violent fantasies against the satirist: “If I meet him, I once swore, he’ll get a big beating.” However, when he actually spotted Böhmermann, he was able to hold back “thank God.”
Considering the fact that Schweiger also had to face allegations of violence on the set of the “Manta Manta” sequel, this is a violent statement. I also commented on the incident in the interview and said: “It wasn’t even a clamp, it was a slap.” Because that didn’t sound like insight at first, he immediately said: “I’m saying this […] not to put things into perspective. You don’t touch someone’s face.” According to him, the matter was forgiven the following day – “and I was infinitely happy and grateful about that.”
What does it have to do with his hospitalization?
In the near future, Schweiger wants to generate positive headlines again. The script for a new film is currently being written, and the title (“Sandbox Warriors”) and the plot have already been decided. At the moment, however, the silent man who is willing to work inevitably has to take it easy: he still has to “after a few hours a day […] “on my finca” every evening back to a clinic on Mallorca.
A wound on the leg that “repeatedly became infected” made this unavoidable. He doesn’t reveal in the interview how long he’ll have to handle it like this. However, he responds to rumors circulating that he is actually in the clinic for alcohol withdrawal: “I’ll tell you what: I’m completely offended by that.”
