A few weeks ago, Alexander Stubb took office as Finnish President and has immediately started cultivating contacts. The Swedish royal family opened the doors to him and welcomed him into the royal halls.
The royal couple first welcomed the presidential couple in the magnificent court stables before they drove together in a magnificent carriage through the streets of the Swedish capital to their destination, the royal palace. There they were warmly welcomed by government representatives in the Rikssalen and then welcomed in the Victoria Salon by members of the royal family, including Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia. The highlight was a festive gala dinner in the palace on Tuesday evening.
As usual, the Swedish royals cut an elegant figure in their stylish outfits at the reception. The women all wore bright spring colors. Princess Victoria appeared in a royal blue midi dress that matched her pumps perfectly, while Sofia stood out in a knee-length yellow A-line dress. Queen Silvia was resplendent in her lilac coat dress, but upon closer inspection one could see that her left eye was completely red – a disturbing sight that may indicate health problems.
The Swedish royal family commented on Queen Silvia’s condition
But the palace quickly gave the all-clear. Margareta Thorgren, the court’s press secretary, explained that Queen Silvia’s eye problems were due to exposure to the cold. Conjunctival bleeding can occur in the cold months when there are significant temperature differences inside and outside. Thorgren told “Svensk Damtidning” that the queen had a cold draft in her eye and that this was where the severe redness came from. Otherwise the queen is doing well.
