What the movie on which the new series with Steve Carell and Tina Fey on Netflix is based is about
In the film, three married couples vacation together each season, but things get complicated when one of the husbands leaves his wife and starts bringing a younger woman with him. It was previously adapted into a 1984 television series for CBS.
This won’t be the first time Carell and Fey appear on screen together. They previously played a married couple in the hit 2010 comedy “Date Night”. This isn’t Carell’s first Netflix series either, as he previously directed the comedy series “Space Force” on the streamer.
Carell is best known for his participation in the hit NBC comedy “The Office”, for which he received six consecutive Emmy nominations for best actor in a comedy series. He also won a Golden Globe for the series in 2006. Carell is also nominated for an Oscar and received the best actor award for his role in the 2014 film “Foxcatcher”. She has also starred in films such as “The 40 Year Old Virgin”, “The Big Short” and the franchise “Despicable Me”. Her recent television credits include the FX limited series “The Patient” and “The Morning Show” on Apple TV+.
In addition to starring, Fey co-created the series along with Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield. The three previously worked together on the beloved NBC comedy “30 Rock”. The three also executive produce along with David Miner, Eric Gurian and Jeff Richmond. Alda and Marissa Bregman, whose father produced the film, will also produce the series. Universal Television, where Fey and his Little Stranger, Inc. banner are established under an overall deal, will produce.
The series, produced by Universal Television, is based on the 1981 feature film of the same name from Universal Pictures that was written and directed by Alan Alda, produced by Martin Bregman and starring Alda and Carol Burnett.
