The film was intended to be the director’s tenth and last after he previously promised to retire after making this film. However, earlier this month, it was reported that Tarantino had “simply changed his mind” about making The Movie Critic and that the film had now been scrapped.

The Deadline report also noted that Tarantino had rewritten the script and that the film’s production had been delayed due to last year’s screenwriter and actor strikes.
Tarantino wanted to bring back old characters from his filmography for his latest film
Now, The Hollywood Reporter has stated that one idea of the script was to recover characters from previous Tarantino films.
They report that Tarantino planned “bring back some of the stars from their previous works to reprise their iconic characters in ‘movie-within-a-movie’ moments, or play fictional versions of themselves like the actors who played those characters.” The publication says that sources claimed that it would have created a kind of Tarantino “metaverse.”
Brad Pitt had been assigned to The Movie Critic as its lead actor, with rumors that other actors who had worked in the past with Tarantino would also star, which would fit with the idea of the director bringing back previous characters.
Tarantino now appears to be focusing on a completely new project for his latest film.
