Céline Dion ended up in the hospital after her wedding to René Angélil. Reason: your tiara is too heavy.
Around 30 years ago, Céline Dion (56) said yes to her great love René Angélil (1942-2016). Now the singer revealed that she had to go to the hospital after the wedding – because of the oversized tiara she wore at the wedding.
Dion talks about 13 iconic looks from her career. While she looks back on some of her outfits from the 1990s with a frown, her wedding look from December 1994 is one of her favorites. Especially because it reminds her of her late husband: “I still feel his presence so much, this moment will be with me forever,” says Dion. “He brought out the best in me.”

She was so happy on the day of the wedding that she didn’t even notice the heavy weight of the massive tiara embroidered with 2,000 Swarovski crystals that she wore with her veil. There was a brief moment in the cathedral when she thought “Oh, can I do this?”, but everything went smoothly.
Until after the ceremony and celebration: “When we removed the tiara, we noticed that I had a big cut on my forehead because the pressure was too much,” recalls Céline Dion. When she woke up the next day, she had an egg-sized bump on her forehead. The bump was so big that she could no longer see properly and was squinting. “I had to go to the doctor and take antibiotics for three weeks,” says Dion. “But I looked good.”

Despite the injury and its aftermath, Céline Dion wouldn’t change a thing about her wedding look; “It’s a moment that I will carry with me forever,” said the singer. René Angelil died in 2016 at the age of 73 as a result of cancer. The Canadian discovered Dion, who was 26 years his junior, in 1981 and became her manager. The couple has three sons together: René-Charles (23) and the twins Nelson and Eddy, born in 2010.
