The streaming deal caused a stir: After William and Meghan fell out with the British royal family, they were the first royals to conclude an exclusive deal with a streaming provider. The initial situation is actually a problem for Meghan: the former actress was planning big business with her new brand American Riviera Orchard. She wanted to conquer the lucrative lifestyle market with furnishing, cooking and garden products. But that has so far failed due to one personnel issue: she simply couldn’t find a suitable managing director, reports an insider to the “Daily Mail”. Now Netflix should step in.

Netflix should take over business for Meghan

According to the insider, the Duchess and the streaming giant are already in negotiations. The idea: Netflix should take over the day-to-day business for you. “The company will run the lifestyle business with Meghan and develop products to complement her show,” said the insider. It was first reported two weeks ago that Meghan is working on a new cooking show with Netflix. The show would be the ideal test field to see how the Duchess’ products used in it could subsequently be sold to viewers.

Meghan’s suggestion is likely to spark interest from the streaming giant – after all, this is a previously untapped business area for the streaming service. “This is new for Netflix,” explains the Daily Mail’s source. “If they agree to a partnership, Netflix would be expected to appoint its own CEO to run the business.”

An opportunity for Netflix

This should be a welcome opportunity for the streaming giant to expand its business. The group is under increasing pressure to finally make money after a long phase of high investment costs. In recent months, there has been increased action against sharing accounts, increasing prices and reducing production costs. Selling your own products in partnership with prominent protagonists and using the shows as advertising vehicles could open up completely new sources of money for Netflix without straying too far from the core of the brand.

However, the idea is not entirely new. Competitor Warner Bros, for example, has entered into a similar deal with the makers of the home improvement show “Fixer Upper” and sells products inspired by the show on its own marketplace called Magnolia. Netflix itself could have actually implemented the idea earlier: With “The Goop Lab,” Gwyneth Paltrow had her own series on the lifestyle brand of the same name on the streaming provider. At that time, Goop took over the distribution of the products itself.
