Television: Presenter Nazan Eckes surprises as a singing robo-dog

A celebrity has once again been exposed in the ProSieben show “The Masked Singer”. This time it was a presenter who is mainly known from RTL programs – and who had to sweat a lot.

Now she can also sing: Presenter Nazan Eckes showed a previously unknown side of herself in the ProSieben show “The Masked Singer”. The 47-year-old has now left the music show – but she had previously proven that she can sing very well. An ability with which she had not previously appeared publicly.

“I had no idea whether I could sing or not,” said Eckes herself when “The Masked Singer” was over for her. But she has wanted to take part in the show for years, in which celebrities present songs hidden under elaborate masquerades. In fact, it was her first time singing on a stage.

All in all, the conclusion was positive. “It’s incredibly fun,” said Eckes. But the conditions are not easy. “I think it’s 100 degrees in this costume and it smells like an old sneaker. And sometimes the soup was running down my face.”

Too few voices from the audience

Eckes was in the costume of the so-called Robodog – a multifunctional superhero dog with all kinds of fur. Now she had to take off the futuristic four-legged friend mask – which may have reminded some people of the children’s series “Paw Patrol” – because it didn’t get enough votes from the audience.

The Cologne native became known primarily through various programs on ProSieben’s competitor RTL. Among other things, she presented the dance show “Let’s Dance” and the casting format “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” there. For years she also appeared in front of the camera for “Explosiv – Das Magazin”. Eckes proved that she has additional talents lying dormant when she was hired as a candidate again on “Let’s Dance” after her time as a presenter and knew how to impress on the dance floor. In 2022 she announced that her exclusive collaboration with RTL was ending.

The guessing team discovered Eckes

The advice team in the studio had already figured out Eckes before he was exposed. The Cologne native was unanimously suspected to be under the fur costume. Other speculations such as Laura Wontorra or Janin Ullmann were quickly dismissed. The reason: the many suitable indications. Moderator Viviane Geppert, who was allowed to puzzle along as a guest, summarized: “It all just fits together too well.”

In connection with the Robodog, among other things, building blocks could be seen that were reminiscent of the former music channel Viva in shape and color. Eckes began her career there. ProSieben also showed a weatherman. That was also an indication of Eckes’ career ladder. She once presented the weather at RTL.

The presenter was the fourth celebrity to be eliminated from the show. It had previously met entertainer Hugo Egon Balder (dressed as a potato), actress Uschi Glas (as a baby lion) and singer Annett Louisan (as cotton candy). On “The Masked Singer” celebrities appear as singers, but hide their true identities behind large costumes. Only her voice and mysterious clues give any idea who is on stage. Normally they are exposed if they get too few votes from the audience – or end up winning the final. The tenth season is currently running.

Flip-flops, a crocodile – and Vanessa Mai

There are now two flip-flops in the running, a crocodile, the herald of spring “Elgonia” and a flea riding on a snail. There are already hot tips for all of them. Could the harbinger of spring be singer Nadja Benaissa from the No Angels? The crocodile Sebastian Krumbiegel from the group Die Prinzen? The flea the comedian Mirja Boes? And The Flip-Flops the Lochmann twins (the Lochis)? We’ll find out soon.

An innovation of the current season is a mask, “the mystery”, which is revealed every week outside of the regular competition and under which there is always a different star. Now it was pop singer Vanessa Mai who used her short appearance for an interpretation of the casual country song “Texas Hold ‘Em” by US singer Beyoncé (42). “No one has ever danced as beautifully in a mystery costume as you,” said moderator Matthias Opdenhövel (53) appreciatively.

Mai was also found out in the studio despite the costume. Moderator Palina Rojinski (39) typed the correct name in the guessing team – after some pondering, she was on the right track thanks to the evidence in this case too. One clue was a crossed out cloud. He pointed to the hit band Wolkenfrei, with whom Mai had once had her breakthrough.
