Inger Nilsson played the cheeky Pippi Longstocking in the famous film adaptation almost 55 years ago. Now she is 65 years old – and is studying German diligently.
Lifelong learning for Pippi Longstocking: The Swedish actress and former Pippi actress Inger Nilsson will be 65 years old on Saturday (May 4th) – and would like to be able to speak German better soon. “I tried to learn a little more German. I can understand some German, but I can’t speak it,” said Nilsson in an interview with the German Press Agency.
Through the role of forensic doctor Ewa Svensson in the ZDF crime series “The Inspector and the Sea” alongside Walter Sittler and Andy Gätjen and numerous filmings in Germany, she has learned a lot after a while. The language is “very beautiful” – and very similar to Swedish. “We have some words that are almost identical. So it’s a good language to learn.”
On the occasion of her birthday, Nilsson also reveals her personal recipe for a happy life. She looks forward, doesn’t live in the past. Her role as Pippi – the first film was released almost 55 years ago – cannot be compared with her current tasks. “That was then, and now is now.” She particularly likes the phase after Pippi Longstocking: “I love adulthood.” She keeps her birthday celebration down to earth. “I’m just meeting some friends at a restaurant, like I always did on birthdays,” she says.
