Musician: Jan Delay: Everyone should preserve democracy and vote

The musician Jan Delay has always been considered a political person who does not hold back with his opinions. And he thinks everyone should vote. Otherwise, complaining is not allowed.

For the Hamburg musician Jan Delay, voting is the most important thing in order to preserve democracy. “I don’t want to assume or demand that everyone is political. I just think it’s always good if you’re interested in political things and the context,” said the 48-year-old to the German Press Agency in Hamburg. “And I just think it’s important that we live in a democracy and continue to preserve that and that everyone does their little part by voting.”

Those who don’t do this – with whatever arguments – should then also know “that they should simply keep their mouths shut forever if something around them doesn’t suit them.” It doesn’t matter if someone threw their cigarette on the ground or if it was too loud in their street or if Günther Jauch’s jacket didn’t fit them. “Just don’t give a damn. The moment they have let their rights or their contribution to democracy expire, they have no right to complain about anything.”

It’s not just important now to be politically interested. This has been important for years. “Because otherwise we wouldn’t be where we are now.” Jan Delay releases his best-of album “Forever Jan” on May 3rd and starts his tour at the end of May.
