From vintage cars to toasters: that’s how much money the auction of memorabilia from Jan Fedder’s collection brought in.
Jan Fedder (1955-2019) was not only a popular actor and Hamburg original, but also a passionate collector. His widow Marion (62) has now auctioned off some pieces from the “Großstadtrevier” star’s estate on the online auction house Ebay. Around 123,000 euros were raised.
Vehicles owned by the Hamburg resident brought in most of the money. The most expensive item is a Mercedes Ponton 180 D from 1960. The classic car sold for 70,050 euros. Her late husband bought the car in 2000 because his father had once owned one of these.
Another car brought 16,550 euros: a Ford Explorer, which was used not only privately but also in the “big city area”. His character Dirk Matthies often used it in undercover investigations. A motorcycle brought in significantly less money. The Moto Guzzi 850 T3 California changed hands for 16,151 euros.
Toaster by Tim Mälzer, lighter by Helmut Schmidt
A toaster fetched an impressive 1,367 euros – but not just any: the first German television chef Clemens Wilmenrod (1906-1967) is said to have invented the legendary Hawaiian toast in the device from the Heinzelkoch company. Jan Fedder received the toaster as a gift from his good friend Tim Mälzer (53).
A lighter with a prominent previous owner even fetched 8,300 euros. The silver gas lighter belonged to the former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt (1918-2015) and even bears his signature. Fedder once bought the object himself because he was an admirer of the other Hamburg original.
Among the 20 pieces that went under the hammer were Fedder’s first record player from the 1960s and the cash register from his parents’ pub.
This is what happens to money
The auction was not the first auction with Jan Fedder memorabilia. His widow had already offered numerous pieces for sale in 2021 and 2022. She used the proceeds to support the Hamburg Church of St. Michael’s. The Fedders once got married in “Michel” and the funeral service after the actor’s death also took place here.
The money from the new auction will go to new memorial sites for Jan Fedder. In addition, the existing memorials must be maintained. This includes the grave in Ohlsdorf, the Jan Fedder Promenade at the harbor and memorial plaques on the Michel and at Fedder’s favorite pub “Ritze” in St. Pauli.
