Around three months after his cancer diagnosis was announced, King Charles III. attended a public meeting for the first time. The 75-year-old visited a cancer center in London with his wife Queen Camilla on Tuesday. The two waved as they arrived at the building at midday. Charles will also become the new patron of Cancer Research UK, which promotes cancer research.
The British royal family made it public at the beginning of February that Charles was suffering from cancer. It is not known what type of cancer it is or how the monarch is treated. But it shouldn’t be prostate cancer. Charles had previously been treated in hospital for an enlarged prostate.
King Charles III is back in public
On the advice of his doctors, Charles did not attend any major public appointments for the time being. However, he continued with state affairs and, for example, had himself photographed on the way to church services. On Tuesday he visited a clinic in the British capital, where he met patients and medical staff.
Charles has been British monarch for a year and a half after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in September 2022 at the age of 96. Almost a year ago, on May 6, 2023, Charles’ accession to the throne was also celebrated with a lavish coronation in London. His daughter-in-law Princess Kate is also being treated for a cancer diagnosis. It is not clear when she will return to the public.
