10 tips for relaxing holidays on the couch

New films and series, shows, documentaries and concerts: at Christmas the streaming services and TV stations polish their programs to a high gloss in order to offer their viewers a respectable festive program.

We have rummaged through the varied offer and show a colorful selection of highlights from streaming and television – from the church service with Pope Francis to the Christmas Dalli-Dalli-Revival with celebrities.

We can already say one thing: The Christmas holidays will not be boring in 2021 either. Have fun on the couch during your holidays!

The new Disney flick only recently started in cinemas – from today it is
touching story to see Mirabel and her magical family on Disney +.

Three hazelnuts for cinderella

Without the fairy tale of the poor girl who becomes a princess, nothing works at Christmas. Now it has been re-filmed for the streaming service Amazon Prime and modernized without the nostalgia ballast. In the Norwegian production, the Cinderella, played by the musician Astrid Smeplass, quickly learns to rebel against her mother-in-law.

Side

RTL has re-filmed the story of Empress Elisabeth and her husband Franz Joseph with ORF. The action-packed six-part series was freed from kitsch, with Dominique Devenport and Jannik Schümann in the lead roles, Julia Stemberger as Sisi’s mother Ludovika. The series will be shown in double episodes on December 28, 29 and 30 on ORF 1 and RTL.

Christmas movies

Here Netflix has a wide selection of new romantic flicks, this year including “Love Hard” about Natalie Hard, who has problems with her online crush shortly before Christmas, or the sequel to “A California Christmas” about the rich playboy Joseph and the dashing wine grower Callie.

Film rarities are booming around Christmas. Today at 8:15 pm there is “Kevin – Alone at home” on Sat 1, while ATV shows “The ghosts I called” at the same time. ORF III will show all episodes of the legendary film adaptation of Peter Rosegger’s “Waldheimat” tomorrow from 9:00 am to 8:15 pm.

Documentaries

Friedrich von Thun introduces Habsburg’s secret rulers in a four-part series (from December 26th, 8:15 p.m., ORF III), ORF 2 shows on the same day that Christmas was celebrated in the Seitenstetten Abbey in the Baroque period (5:55 p.m.). On December 25th, Horst Lichter will drive his dream motorcycle routes (7.15 p.m., ZDF).

children

Christmas time is fairy tale time – today ZDF is showing a remake of the classic “Dwarf Nose” (4:25 pm), while ORF is showing the Disney film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” at the same time. Already today at 7 o’clock the Disney Channel is showing Mickey and Minnie’s Christmas special “The Christmas Wish”.

Religion

Today ORF 2 will broadcast Christmas mass with Pope Francis from St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome from 11 p.m., before ORF III will show a Protestant Christmas vesper from 7 p.m. Tomorrow the head of the church will donate the Christmas blessing at 12 noon (ORF 2). The mass from Kiliansdom in Würzburg (ORF 2) already takes place at 10.45.

Shows

Pop stars will be guests at Carmen Nebel’s ZDF Christmas show today at 8.15 p.m., on ORF III star tenor Jonas Kaufmann and his colleagues will be celebrating Christmas at the Silent Night Chapel in Oberndorf at the same time. It’s going to be more turbulent tomorrow on ORF 2 and ZDF: There’s a Dalli-Dalli Christmas show, with Florian Silbereisen and Michelle Hunziker, among others.

OÖN-Christkindl-Gala

Because the OÖN Christkindl Gala could not take place in front of an audience, OÖN-TV created a 50-minute special broadcast that was recorded in the Linz grotto railway. Stars from Cesar Sampson to the Poxrucker Sisters will be there. The gala can be seen from today, 6.45 p.m. until December 26, 6.45 p.m. on TV 1 Upper Austria.
