Met Gala: the flashiest fashion party for stars

It’s the biggest party of the year: The Met Gala, a kind of fashion costume ball, takes place in New York on the first Monday in May. Although it is a fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, most people know the event as a show of stars. Whether actresses, singers or models: everyone wants to be there. One of the coveted tickets costs $75,000, $25,000 more than last year. The table prices are also tough: they start at $350,000. But whether you can climb the stairs to the venerable museum is not decided by your own wallet, but by Anna Wintour. The “Vogue” boss is the gala’s patron; every guest is approved by her.

Based on the exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening”, which opens at the same time in New York’s Metropolitan Museum, the motto of this year’s event is “Garden of Time”. But who is allowed to dress up according to the dress code remains a secret until the event. Worst faux pas? To be critical of the Met Gala like Gwyneth Paltrow and Amy Schumer. Both had to take a break for some time before Wintour let them take part again. Wintour only remains adamant about one person. A few years ago, on a TV show hosted by British entertainer James Cordon, she had the choice of eating pickled pig’s trotters or revealing who she would never invite again. Her answer: “Donald Trump.”
