Finding true love while dating via apps is not that easy. 50 happy online dating couples did it – and give tips.
Online dating is often criticized for disrupting the traditional way of getting to know each other and supposedly complicating everything. Users often encounter costs, time and frustration. The whole thing is reinforced by people who do not present themselves correctly and are prone to “ghosting”. This raises doubts about the effectiveness of digital data and at some point you lose interest.
But a survey with 50 couples who met online shows how it can work to find true love digitally. They shared their insights into successful online dating strategies in Psychology Today magazine.
The couples rated these five dating behaviors as promising:
The Love Find one, you don’t have to search
Some people found love when they weren’t actively looking for it. Many years of online dating eventually led to serendipitous encounters when you no longer expected them. An open attitude towards different types of relationships made the search for a partner easier.
Kindness trumps superficial metrics
Size and income were rarely decisive factors when choosing a partner. Instead, kindness and character have consistently been shown to be important factors for compatibility and long-term satisfaction in a relationship.
Realistic expectations lead to positive results
Having a realistic picture of potential partners prevented idealized fantasies and facilitated real connections. By having a realistic idea of their potential partner, some were even lucky enough that the new acquaintance exceeded their ideal.
Expand search beyond local boundaries
Modern technology makes dating possible across geographic boundaries. The couples surveyed used this feature to expand their options, resulting in successful long-distance relationships, albeit with challenges.
Selective approach improves results
Instead of settling for less suitable partners, participants held on to personal standards to keep themselves ready for meaningful relationships. If you stuck to your partner’s wishes, you increased your chance of a happy relationship.
With these five learnings, which analyzed 50 diverse, happy online dating couples, individuals can navigate the complexities of online dating more effectively and increase the likelihood of finding fulfilling relationships.
