One evening, two styles: Actress Zendaya surprised with an outfit change at the Met Gala.
It’s not easy to stand out among all the big stars at the Met Gala. But actress Zendaya (27) has achieved the feat again. The “Dune” star, known for his extravagant style, impressed in New York on May 6th with two completely different looks.
Both dresses by John Galliano
Along with Jennifer Lopez (54), Marvel star Chris Hemsworth (40) and Latino rapper Bad Bunny (30), Zendaya was one of the moderators of the fashion spectacle, at which “Vogue” editor-in-chief Anna Wintour (74) appeared as every year Co-host was on duty. A special evening for Hollywood’s current superstar, which she underlined with a surprising outfit change.
First, she walked across the garden-themed carpet in a tight, blue and black mermaid-style dress. The tulle dress was reminiscent of a peacock and therefore fit perfectly with the motto of the event: “The Garden of Time”. It was an homage to the Christian Dior Haute Couture styles designed by John Galliano in spring 1999. The make-up by Pat McGrath Labs was dramatic, with dark lips and dark cat eyes. Zendaya also wore an eye-catching fascinator.
To the surprise of the photographers, the actress later presented herself in a second style, in a large black robe with a long train and ruffled sleeves. This look also comes from John Galliano’s 1996 Givenchy collection. The garden theme was taken up by a hat decorated with roses from Alexander McQueen’s 2007 collaboration with Philip Treacy.
She finds the event “terrifying”
Zendaya has often been the talk of fashion at the Met Gala. She made her debut in 2015, wearing a custom-made Fausto Puglisi sun-motif dress inspired by the then-themed “China: Through the Looking Glass.” In 2018 she stunned in a Jeanne d’Arc-inspired chainmail dress by Atelier Versace, and in 2019 in a dress by Cinderella Tommy Hilfiger. It was also the last time she attended the Met Gala. In April, Zendaya told “Live with Kelly and Mark” that even though she’s a seasoned professional, she always finds the event a little “terrifying”: “Walking up the steps is very daunting.”
