William Shatner: Rejuvenation for Comeback as Kirk?

William Shatner can imagine playing Kirk again. He has technological and dramaturgical ideas for a comeback.

William Shatner (93) can get used to the idea of playing Captain Kirk again. “That’s a fascinating idea,” said the Canadian. The news agency from his home country had asked him about his star role, which he first played in the 1966 series “Star Trek”.

For the actor, a comeback depends on the script. “It’s almost impossible,” he said of returning as Kirk. “But it was a great role and so well written, and if there was a reason not just to do a cameo, but if there was a real reason for the character to appear, I might consider it.”

Captain Kirk is actually dead

But the problem is: the captain is already dead, he died in “Star Trek: Meeting of the Generations”. The 1994 film was Shatner’s final appearance as James Tiberius Kirk. But the actor has an idea how he could still be beamed aboard the Enterprise again.

The ninety-something suggests that he could portray a young Kirk. Because a comeback could perhaps prevent a bad script – technical reasons don’t matter. Shatner has recently become a spokesman for the company Otoy, which specializes in technological rejuvenation.

So Shatner wants to play Kirk again

Otoy, according to Shatner, can “take years away from your face, so you can look 10, 20, 30, 50 years younger than you are in a movie.” In fact, digital rejuvenation of old stars has long been common practice, see Robert De Niro (80) in “The Irishman” or Harrison Ford (81) in “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny”.

William Shatner has already thought about a dramaturgically sensible way to embed his rejuvenated self. Someone might have frozen Captian Kirk’s brain. “A company that wants to freeze my body and brain for the future could be a possibility,” the actor reasoned.
