What “I Play Rocky” will be about
“I Play Rocky”, will follow Stallone long before his action hero days. Here, he is a struggling actor whose partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment have left him in demand in Hollywood. But betting on his talent, Stallone writes a hot script that a major film studio wants to buy. However, he refuses to sell it unless he gets to be the lead. Turning down a life-changing offer of money, he works for a pittance so he can make the film with himself as the main character. The result is the biggest box office hit of 1976, as well as a giant Academy Award that even won Best Picture.
Farrelly will produce the film with former Warner Bros. film chief Toby Emmerich and Christian Baha. Peter Gamble (“Office Uprising”) wrote the script. Casting is still in process.
“When I first read Peter Gamble’s energetic and moving script, I knew it captured something very special,” Baha said. “The story of ‘I Play Rocky’ is as unique as Sylvester Stallone himself, a seemingly everyman with an undeniable gift who needs to share it with the world and refuses to take ‘no’ for an answer.”
