Heinz Hoenig thanks his supporters with emotional words

Heinz Hoenig has been fighting for his life for several days. Because the actor doesn’t have health insurance, his good friend Ralph Siegel launched a fundraising appeal. Now Hoenig could thank him for the first time.

Only an extremely dangerous operation can save Heinz Hoenig’s life. The actor now knows this after the treating team of doctors brought him out of his coma. In an interview with RTL, Hoenig’s wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig talks about Hoenig’s first words after his coma.

Heinz Hoenig: Before aortic surgery, the esophagus must be operated on

“Anni, there is no other option for us,” he told her about the operation. The 72-year-old needs an aorta prosthesis (read here what this means and why the procedure is risky). Before his aorta can be treated, an operation on the esophagus must first take place, Kärsten-Hoenig explains to the broadcaster. This should be done first. If the operation is successful, Hoenig would have to be fed artificially for several months.

“Once this operation has taken place, it has to heal and only then can the aorta be operated on,” said Hoenig’s wife. “It has to be operated on because you can’t guarantee how long the stent will last. You have to imagine that there is this infection on the stent that was placed and it won’t go away with the stent. So it’s like that he needs this surgery in the form of aorta replacement,” she says.

He is awake and thanks you

The 39-year-old also reveals that her husband is full of hope. “This hope in his eyes. This belief in it. This incredible strength that I saw in him again,” is her impression. In the hospital, she also told him about the fundraising appeal that his friend Ralph Siegel launched and which has already found numerous supporters. “Even people who are not doing well financially are willing to help him,” says Kärsten-Hoenig.

Hoenig reacted emotionally and hopefully when he heard how much sympathy there was among people. “I also told him how many people, an incredible number of people, write me loving messages, that they all believe in him, that they pray for him, that they light candles in the evenings, and that they have such great, loving words left for him,” she reports. “He cried for joy and said: ‘Tell the people out there, I’ll come back, no matter what, I’ll come back.'” Hoenig had to cry because of her emotion.
