Prince Harry is in London, but will not meet his father, King Charles III there. Instead, he announced that he would pass on one of his most important tasks to his other son, heir to the throne William.
The British Royal Palace is also a major communications machine. The PR matters of William and Kate and Charles and Camilla are each represented by different offices, one from Kensington Palace and the other from Buckingham Palace. Rarely does anything happen by chance.
King Charles III hands over important task to Prince William
And so the timing of an appointment announcement by King Charles could be quite interesting. On Tuesday, Prince Harry’s spokesman revealed that the monarch did not have time to meet his younger son while he was in London. His schedule was simply too full, they said. It went on to say that Prince Harry “naturally understands his father’s busy schedule full of commitments and various other priorities.”
Just a few hours later, Buckingham Palace announced a new appointment for Charles – together with Harry’s brother and heir to the throne, Prince William. Next Monday the king wants to hand over his post as colonel of the aviation corps to his heir to the throne. The timing of the announcement is quite interesting. The role of colonel would probably have gone to Prince Harry if he hadn’t turned his back on his duties as senior royal four years ago. In his twenties, Harry worked as an Apache helicopter pilot and served several wars in Afghanistan with the Army Air Corps. The role of colonel would have been quite suitable for the number five in line to the throne.

A look at the most important moments in the Queen’s life
Title might have gone to Harry
Harry last spoke about his time in the army in his autobiography “Reserve”. He made it clear how important his work as a soldier was to him and how great the solidarity in his troops was. Harry’s time at the front had a strong impact on the now 39-year-old. In his book he also talked about the competitive relationship with William, which was further intensified by the Afghanistan mission. If you believe Harry, William had to worry about not being allowed to fight against the Taliban like his younger brother. Instead, the heir to the throne completed pilot training for the search and rescue service. “He saved lives every week, doing, in my opinion, a remarkable, vital job,” Harry wrote in his autobiography.
Because he had to experience what it was like to return from war, he founded the Invictus Games for veterans. Harry has now traveled to London for the anniversary of the games – none of his family will take part in the celebrations.
