Madonna: Tour grosses 5.4 million

Madonna ended her “The Celebration Tour” a week ago. The Queen of Pop’s concert series was a huge financial success.

Madonna (65) is the only woman to have grossed more than $100 million on six tours. Last Saturday (May 4th) her “The Celebration Tour” ended for the 40th anniversary of her career. With the concert series, which took her around the globe with 80 performances over seven months, the Queen of Pop was able to generate revenue of $225.4 million.

With 1.1 million tickets sold, the tour is Madonna’s third most lucrative ever and the sixth to break the $100 million mark in revenue. In addition to the musician, only her male colleagues from the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, U2 and the Eagles have achieved this milestone.

The last concert of the tour also set a record

Madonna set a new benchmark not only with the entire tour, but also with her last concert. Around 1.6 million spectators came to their final concert at the famous Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. For the artist, the free concert on the beach was the biggest act of her career.

But “The Celebration Tour” almost didn’t take place. Madonna was supposed to start last summer, but had to postpone it until October after her health rapidly deteriorated. Because of a “severe bacterial infection,” she suffered lung and kidney failure, as she said in Paris.
