The protagonist of the series is Ilonka, a young woman who recently entered the prestigious Sanford University but her studies are interrupted after learning that she suffers from cancer. After not having good results with a series of treatments, She is transferred to Brightcliffe, an institution that cares for adolescents suffering from terminal illnesses.
The residency takes place in an old mansion that harbors dark secrets and strange behaviors which Ilonka realizes since her arrival. The building is full of paranormal phenomena but the most striking is the one that gives the story its title. The residents meet secretly every night to perform a ritual in the basement of the house to tell stories that each one will prepare for the different meetings. Each of them are presented as different shorts starring their narrators.
These meetings are an excuse to get together and get rid of the difficult situations of finding themselves in the last moments of their lives. Their stories serve to talk about their lives, what they wanted to do, what they miss, but also their fears and frustrations.. At the same time, fear grows about the things that threaten them in Brightcliffe.
