A first, cautious sigh of relief: According to his manager, the operation on Heinz Hoenig’s esophagus was “successful so far”.
The first good news after Heinz Hoenig’s (72) operation marathon: Like and, the actor survived the vital but immensely risky operation well, which was carried out since Monday morning. His manager Birgit Fischer-Höper confirmed to RTL that the procedure had been “successful so far”. During the operation, the “Das Boot” star had to have her esophagus removed. According to the reports, Hoenig is currently recovering from the anesthesia – so it is not yet possible to say exactly how he is doing.
A few hours before the procedure, his wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig (39) was live in the studio of the RTL program “stern TV am Sonntag” late on Sunday evening. She explained again how high the risk of the operation was. “Heinz is very afraid, but also has a great will to live,” she also described how the seriously ill actor was doing shortly before the first of two vital operations.
She had already revealed in advance what massive consequences even a successful esophageal operation had: “In principle, the esophagus had to be relocated to the outside. This means that if my husband survives this operation, he will not be able to eat anything for at least nine months drink and have to be fed artificially.”
Another important operation is coming up
Kärsten-Hoenig told the newspaper about a week ago that a bacterial inflammation had spread to Hoenig’s entire aorta and that a stent inserted into the actor in 2012 was damaged. A new stent was then inserted. To make matters worse, a hole was discovered in his esophagus. After a few days, doctors brought him out of an induced coma so that he could make his own decision about what to do next.
Hoenig decided on the operations, the first of which has now apparently been overcome. The star will only be able to undergo surgery on the aorta once he has recovered sufficiently from the first serious procedure.
