By Sachin Ravikumar, Reuters agency.- The drummer of pink floydNick Mason said Tuesday that he would be open to the idea of a reunion concert, but he doesn’t see any appetite among his feuding and now elderly former bandmates.
The legendary English rock group last performed together almost two decades ago, at the Live 8 charity concert held in Hyde Park, London, in 2005.
However, the long dispute between the other two surviving members of the band, Roger Waters and David Gilmourhas only intensified in recent years, becoming one of the bitterest feuds in rock music.
Keyboardist Richard Wright died in 2008 and original frontman Syd Barrett, who left the band much earlier due to deteriorating mental health, died in 2006.
Asked if he would be open to a meeting, Mason told Reuters: “Oh, yes. I would be. But I don’t think you’d find much support from Roger and David to work together.”
Mason said he has not discussed the possibility with either Waters, 80, or Gilmour, 78.
Waters left the band in 1985 due to personal and creative differences and became embroiled in a legal battle over the use of the name Pink Floyd. His disagreements with Gilmour have only gotten worse since then and last year the two clashed on social media and even because of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Waters was the creative force behind the band’s best-known albums, such as “The Dark Side of the Moon” and “The Wall.” Likewise, Gilmour’s voice and his legendary guitar solos helped define Pink Floyd’s signature sound.
“I’m more likely to do shows like Roger did in New York a couple of years ago,” Mason said, referring to a live performance with his own group in 2022, when Waters joined him on stage in a surprise appearance. .
“It was great to do it and who knows. But I really, really don’t think there’s any desire (to get together),” he added.
Mason, 80, spoke during an event at London’s Battersea Power Station to mark the launch of a new version of the 1977 album “Animals,” whose famous cover features the power station and a floating inflatable pig.
