Actor: Kevin Costner named son after a film role

Costner is showing the first part of his western epic “Horizon” in Cannes. He’s been following the project for decades – and is so obsessed with it that he even named his son after it.

Hollywood star Kevin Costner has dreamed of this project for so long that he even named his son after it: the first part of his western epic “Horizon” celebrated its premiere in Cannes. The 69-year-old plays a man named Hayes Ellison. His son – 15-year-old Hayes Costner – also stars in a role. He walked the red carpet with his siblings for the premiere at the film festival. “I don’t automatically give my kids a role in a movie,” Costner said.

His son can be seen in a few scenes in the western film as a boy who faces mortal danger because he doesn’t want to leave his father alone. “If my kids aren’t interested in the business, I’m not going to automatically give them something because I know there are other people for whom this is a dream,” Costner said. “But I’m also a father, and it was a role that wasn’t that long, and I wanted him to be close to me.”

“Horizon” will be published in four chapters. Costner has been trying to finance the mammoth project for over 30 years. In the end, he invested around 20 million euros of his own money. Over the years he has developed an obsession with the project. “I started it in 1988, and I couldn’t get it attached, but I haven’t stopped loving it,” he said. “I don’t know what this says about me, but I couldn’t tear myself away from Hayes. And so at a certain point in my life, 15 years ago, I just named my son Hayes because I couldn’t let him go.”
