The two-time Oscar-winning studio was honored with recognition almost 40 years after its creation.

Hayao Miyazakico-founder of the 40-year-old award-winning studio EITHERscardid not attend the French festival, so his son Goro Miyazaki was the one who received the award. As she took the stand, she said: “I would like to thank all the fans around the world”.
Then, four short films from the studio were screened, including Mei and the baby Catbus from 2002, which was promoted as a “mini-sequel” to the 1989 classic My neighbor Totoro, and Mr. Dough and Princess Egg.“Today they have given Studio Ghibli encouragement for the next 40 years,” said Miyazaki once the screening was over.

The actress Meryl Streep was another of those honored with the honorary Palme d’Or at the opening ceremony, while the director George Lucascreator of “Star Wars”, will receive the award at the closing ceremony on Saturday.
