A new campaign ad for President Joe Biden, for whom Hollywood actor Robert De Niro has cast his vote, is making the rounds in the US media. The video, published by the Democrat’s campaign team on YouTube and other sites, begins with scenes showing former President Donald Trump during his term in office.
The 80-year-old actor – whose voice is considered unmistakable in the USA – uses dramatic music to argue why people should not vote for the Republican Trump. “We knew he was already out of control as president,” says De Niro. “Then he lost the election in 2020 – and he completely lost his chain.”
The video moves on to Trump’s current election campaign and the events of January 6, 2021. Trump supporters violently stormed the Capitol in Washington after the ousted president incited them with the unsubstantiated claim that his election victory had been stolen from him through massive fraud. “Trump wants revenge,” warns De Niro, with a view to a possible second term for the Republican. “And he will stop at nothing to achieve this.”
In this US election year, everything points to a new edition of the duel between Biden and Trump. It is not unusual for stars and celebrities to take sides and sometimes even campaign. The ad, narrated by De Niro, is also intended to remind voters “how much chaos and damage” Trump caused during his time in office, reported the New York Times, citing Biden’s campaign manager.
