Italian film diva Gina Lollobrigida is said to have left behind debts after her death. Personal memorabilia, sumptuous furniture and fine jewelry have now been auctioned off.

Hundreds of items belonging to film diva Gina Lollobrigida, who died in January 2023, have been auctioned in Italy. The wristwatch that Cuba’s revolutionary leader Fidel Castro once gave to Lollobrigida went under the hammer for 18,850 euros, the Wannenes auction house announced. All 410 objects offered at the more than ten-hour auction in Genoa on Tuesday were sold. The auction house stated the total as 1.14 million euros including auction fees. After deducting the fees, around 910,000 euros were raised, a spokeswoman said when asked.

According to the auction house, a bronze sculpture by the artist Giacomo Manzù, which is said to show Lollobrigida, was bought by a bidder for 125,100 euros. A lavishly decorated Sicilian wooden cabinet with inlays of coral and tortoise shell went for 118,250 euros. A gold ring with an emerald and diamonds was bid for 9,475 euros.

Did Lollobrigida leave behind debts?

It is unclear what exactly will happen with the proceeds. According to media reports, the Italian actress is said to have left behind debts. The rest will be divided between the two feuding heirs, Lollobrigida’s son Milko Skofic and her long-time assistant and companion, Andrea Piazzolla.

The Italian was one of the most famous film stars in the world for decades. Her important works include “Trapeze”, “Fanfan the Hussar” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”.

On Wednesday, the auction house wanted to auction off almost 300 more items from the catalogue “From the collections of Gina Lollobrigida”. When asked, it was clarified that these did not come from the film diva’s possession.
