The model in question is a Hootenanny 12-string acoustic guitar manufactured in the early 1960s by the Bavarian manufacturer Framus. It famously appeared in the Beatles film Help!, with Lennon using it to play “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away”.

It also appears on the studio version of the song, as well as on “Help!”, “It’s Only Love” and “I’ve Just Seen A Face”. Harrison also used this rare model in “Norwegian Wood” and “Girl”.
How much John Lennon and George Harrison’s lost guitar sold for
After being lost for 50 years, the guitar went up for auction in New York and has now sold for a record amount of 2.9 million dollars.
The sale was handled by Julien’s Auctions and took place at the Hard Rock Café in New York. The winning bid was placed over the phone and it has not been confirmed who purchased the model. It was originally predicted to sell for between $600,000 and $800,000.
With the enormous offer, the Framus It has become the most expensive instrument owned by John Lennon sold at auction. This is because the figure surpasses another of the Beatles’ instruments that went up for auction at Julien’s in 2015 and sold for $2.41 million.
The model in question was a Gibson J-160E acoustic guitar, which was stolen from the songwriting legend and unknowingly purchased by a musician in the late ’60s.
David Goodman, chief executive of Julien’s Auctions, said the Framus was the most important Beatles guitar ever to come on the market. “This guitar is not only a piece of music history, but also a symbol of John Lennon’s enduring legacyhe said (via BBC News). “Today’s record-breaking sale is a testament to the timeless appeal and reverence of the music of the Beatles and John Lennon.”
