He grew up as a construction entrepreneur, she works in a hardware store: the conditions for the 91-year-old’s sixth marriage seem good. And “Bienchen” is fortunately only 49 years younger.
Before his sixth marriage, 91-year-old Richard Lugner went on a health cure to get himself in shape. “I’ve been on this cure for 38 years, but a few kilos less will do even less harm this time,” the Austrian socialite told the German Press Agency.
Last but not least, an intensive massage of his feet gave him new energy. “It’s incredible what that can do.” Lugner only wanted to arrive for the celebration shortly before his planned wedding with Simone Reiländer in Vienna’s town hall. The preparations were all going according to plan. The only thing that worried him was the weather. If it rained, they might have to grab an umbrella on the drive from the town hall to the ballroom in the open vintage car.
The experienced man raves about his new wife. “She is, as her nickname suggests, very hardworking,” he said of Reiländer, alias “Bienchen.” All of Lugner’s wives had such nicknames, but Reiländer did not want to be called that, Lugner told the “Standard,” and he respected that. Fortunately, she was “only” 49 years younger than him.
Lugner: “Being an artist wouldn’t be for me”
For him, an age difference of 50 years is the limit. The businessman, who runs a large shopping center in Vienna, also appreciates the very practical side of his sixth wife. As a manager at a hardware store, she knows a lot about business, said the 91-year-old construction entrepreneur. “An artist would not be for me.” As a vegan, Simone also likes to look after his overgrown garden and grow vegetables. One thing is clear: “It will be the last marriage,” said Lugner.
His life will not fundamentally change with the marriage. “The desire to go out remains,” says the still very sprightly 91-year-old. It is all the nicer that he now knows that Simone is a constant in his life. “I don’t want to go out with someone different every day.”
From the father of four’s point of view, there is currently nothing to speak against further visits to the Opera Ball. “I’m fit anyway,” he said. Lugner has been paying stars and celebrities to accompany him to the Vienna Opera Ball for more than 30 years. This year, the ex-wife of rock’n’roll legend Elvis Presley, Priscilla Presley, was at his side.
