Serie A remains tough: Christian Eriksen apparently cannot continue his career at Inter Milan because of his defibrillator.
The Danish national soccer player Christian Eriksen (29) apparently has to end his career after his cardiac arrest at UEFA EURO 2020 – at least in Italy. The Inter Milan professional was used a defibrillator after his collapse in the first group game in Copenhagen against Finland. This device will give electric shocks in an emergency and could save Eriksen’s life if the incident occurs again.
But in Serie A, the highest Italian league, such implanted defibrillators are not approved for players. Apparently there is no exception to this rule for Eriksen either. In a radio interview with the broadcaster Kiss Kiss, a member of the scientific commission of the Italian federation FIGC confirmed: “He can only play for Inter again if his defibrillator has been removed and a specialist can show that he is physically well. ” Before that, however, he could not be given a game permit.

In other countries and leagues, the defibrillator would not be an obstacle for Eriksen to continue his career. For example, the Dutchman Daley Blind (31) has been playing with such a device for the local top team Ajax Amsterdam since 2019 and also took part in the UEFA EURO 2020 for the Oranje team.
