Michael Douglas visited the sites of the Hamas attack on Israel over the weekend. He assured the country of US support.
Oscar winner Michael Douglas (79) paid a solidarity visit to an Israeli kibbutz on Sunday (June 2). The Hollywood star visited Kibbutz Be’eri in southern Israel, which was badly hit in the Hamas attack on October 7 last year. He also visited the site of the Supernova Festival, where 364 people were murdered.
Michael Douglas meets Israel’s President
“It’s a very difficult time. You feel the deep shock of this whole experience,” Douglas said at Kibbutz Be’eri, adding: “We are just happy to be here and to support Israel and to share with you the fact that America is definitely your ally, as our president has communicated.”
On site in Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7, Douglas viewed destroyed houses in which around 100 people were murdered and 30 taken hostage. The actor expressed hope that the abducted people would “return soon”. At a meeting, Israel’s President Isaac Herzog (63) presented Douglas with a yellow ribbon pin for the prisoners in Gaza and a necklace with the inscription “Our hearts are trapped in Gaza”.
Douglas is just the latest in a long line of US celebrities who have visited Israel in recent weeks and months. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld (70) recently described his trip as “the most powerful experience of my life”.
