Mourning for Brother Marquis (1966-2024): The US rapper and member of the hip-hop group 2 Live Crew from Miami has died at the age of 58. The band’s long-time manager, DJ Debo, reported, citing anonymous sources, that it is assumed that he died of natural causes.

The rapper Brother Marquis was born on April 4, 1966 under the real name Mark Ross in Rochester, New York. He spent his childhood with his mother in Los Angeles before moving to Miami.

The hip-hop band’s greatest successes

In the 80s, he joined a hip-hop group in Florida – The 2 Live Crew. Mark Ross’ beginnings in the rap scene began with DJ Mr. Mixx, Fresh Kid Ice and Amazing V. In 1985, the singles “Revelation” and “What I Like” were released. In 1986, the first album “2 Live What We Are” was released, and the record even achieved gold status.

The group’s greatest success came with their third album “As Nasty As They Wanna Be”, the single “Me So Horny” contained a sample from the film “Full Metal Jacket” (1987) and sold extremely well. However, due to the sexual content, the album was hardly ever played on the radio.

The group split up towards the end of the 90s, and their last album, “The Real One,” was released in 1998, but didn’t make it into the charts. There was one last reunion for the soundtrack of the film “Friday.”

Brother Marquis on the heyday of 2 Live Crew
